Rib Contest Rules
The City of Rio Vista and RioVision are pleased to announce the 2021 Hog August Bites Rib Cook-off being held on August 28th in Downtown Rio Vista, CA. We will be working with Tracy Allen, KCBS MASTER CBJ, on judging again this year.
Ribs will again be provided by RioVision. There will be two categories of awards. The first is a juried judging overseen by Tracy Allen. The second group is judged by People’s Choice. All participants are included in the juried judging and will be given two (2) racks of ribs for the judging. Those who want to participate in the people’s choice award will be given eight (8) additional racks of ribs for people’s choice. The prizes for the juried judging is sharing of one half (½) of the fees brought in by all contestants. The people’s choice awards are set at $300, $200 and $100.
You also still have the option of selling your own ribs to the public with the food vendors but the application and all fees are completed through the food vender coordinator. A prep area will be provided inside 45 Main which includes a table and chair. You will need to trim the ribs. This year the trimmings will be donated to a wild animal preserve south of Rio Vista. Wash stations will also be provided inside 45 Main, you will need to provide a hand washing station at your BBQ site. If you want to prepare your food at your site, outside of 45 Main St, you will need to provide a tent with screened sides and your own wash station (hand and utensil) and follow all Solano County health guidelines.
